About Glendale Colorado

These are exciting times. With support from residents, businesses, the Glendale News and Glendale City Hall, we have built a vibrant business climate in and around the City of Glendale. Since January 2002, when the Greater Glendale Chamber of Commerce was formed, we have been right in the middle of the action.

The Chamber’s objective is not to be the biggest Chamber of Commerce, but instead to be the most effective. We support businesses of all sizes from sole proprietors to big companies like Target and Home Depot. The Chamber in just five years has over 150 members. Through a meeting or two a month, we foster a lively environment for networking by focusing on results while at the same time having fun.

This is no ordinary Chamber - and this is no ordinary City. Careful planning of our future by members of our City government and updating businesses regularly of those plans is just one example of how this tight-knit community supports one another.

While exploring the Glendale area, be sure to take a good look at our local newspaper, the Glendale Cherry Creek Chronicle.  It is currently the fastest growing newspaper in Colorado. The paper is published the first week of every month and is mailed to over 50,000 homes in the surrounding area. It is also available at businesses throughout the area. Our Chamber members enjoy tremendous benefits from advertising in The Glendale News and also from stories about their businesses in the paper.  In every issue, about half of the advertising comes from our Chamber members!

Thank you for your interest – we all look forward to working with you.

This month's featured business: Lowe's Hotels and Modest Needs

In 2007, Loews Hotels created a partnership with Modest Needs.org, an award-winning public charity with a simple but critical mission to stop the cycle of poverty before it starts for the low-income workers whom conventional philanthropy has forgotten.
Modest Needs' donors have stopped 3,984 low-income individuals and families from entering the vicious cycle of poverty and a lifetime of dependence on the public welfare system for their survival. And, in the process, with their “small change,” they’ve freed up millions of dollars in state and federal funding that would have been used to support these people if nothing been done to help them in their times of short-term crisis.

Janet and Danny Schwabenland, long-time Glendale residents, were recently faced with unexpected repairs to their van – a necessary tool for traveling with Danny, a disabled veteran who has suffered a stroke and is now wheelchair-bound. The Glendale Chamber staff led them to Modest Needs, where their application is currently being reviewed. Through the donations of everyday people, Janet and Danny hope to raise the funds necessary to fix this very critical part of their livelihood.

Modest Needs is quickly gaining national recognition. The Oprah Winfrey Magazine, O, recognized the organization in the December 2007 article “The Year of Giving Brilliantly.” Additionally, Former President Bill Clinton selected Modest Needs as one of the best organizations for social media in his book, "Giving."

Loews has always supported their "Good Neighbor" policy, in that each Loews Hotel participates and supports the communities in which they reside.  In 2007, Loews decided to partner with one organization which had a similar style and complemented the Loews principals and promise.

What is different about the dollars you donate to Modest Needs?  Patrons can view all grant applications and vote on where their donations will go. Modest Needs accepts applications from all of the US and Canada, but grants can stay right in your own backyard.

With their commitment to the community and Modest Needs, each Loews Hotel hosted two charitable events to benefit Modest Needs.  Each hotel has appointed a Modest Needs Council which consists of five employees who plan events and selects the grants which our donations will fund. The Loews Denver Hotel hosted the "Vino, Verdi and Vermicelli" (see photos) an evening of fine wines, opera and a gourmet six-course dinner.  Our second event was the Metro Mile in conjunction with the YMCA and the City of Glendale.

Throughout the year, the Modest Needs Council has hosted a cider stand, a giving tree and "Take Your Boss To Work Day" for additional fund raisers.

In all, Loews Denver has raised well over $8,000 for Modest Needs and is still counting.  Better yet, the giving is infectious.  Mountain Towers, the adjoining office building to the Loews Denver has joined the cause.  After allowing the Loews to host a hot cider stand in their lobby, they have agreed to donate proceeds from three of their holiday events.
