Denver Businesswoman Leaves A Lasting Legacy

The Glendale and greater Denver communities are mourning the loss of longtime businesswoman and community supporter Linda Kay Ballas, who passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026, at the age of 78.

While many knew Linda through her successful hospitality businesses, those involved with the Greater Glendale Chamber of Commerce came to know her as a welcoming presence whose kindness, generosity, and enthusiasm helped strengthen the local business community for many years.

Born on July 28, 1947, in Enid, Oklahoma, Linda graduated from Widefield High School before pursuing an opportunity that reflected her adventurous spirit. At just 18 years old, she set her sights on a modeling career. After an early marriage ended, she returned to Colorado and signed with JF Images, where her talent and professionalism caught the attention of fashion icons Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein during a Denver clothing show. They encouraged her to continue her career in New York City, a testament to the promise she showed at an early age.

Instead, Linda’s life would take her in another direction, one centered on family, entrepreneurship, and serving others.

In 1979, she married the love of her life, Steve Ballas, beginning a partnership that lasted 46 years. Together they built several successful businesses that reflected their shared commitment to quality, hospitality, and exceptional customer service.

Their entrepreneurial journey began with Steve & Linda’s Specialties Catering in Connecticut before expanding into the Corporate Deli and Grill, operating locations in both Connecticut and downtown Denver. Later, Linda played an instrumental role in helping establish Steve’s Snappin’ Dogs, the popular Denver restaurant that became a favorite gathering place for residents and visitors alike.

Friends and customers alike often remarked that Linda had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome. Whether greeting guests, helping customers, or working behind the scenes, she believed that great businesses were built on genuine relationships and caring for people.

Life also tested Linda’s strength.

In 1994, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She faced treatment with determination and grace, ultimately becoming a cancer survivor. Following her recovery, she returned to Colorado to help care for her parents, demonstrating the same selflessness that defined both her personal and professional life.

Those who knew Linda remember a woman who embraced every opportunity with optimism. She loved preparing meals for others, supporting family and friends, and encouraging those around her to pursue their dreams. Her warmth, infectious smile, and compassionate spirit left lasting impressions wherever she went.

Within the Glendale Chamber of Commerce, Linda was a familiar face at events and gatherings, always eager to support fellow businesses and celebrate the success of others. Her genuine interest in people and unwavering positivity made her a valued member of the local business community.

Linda is survived by her husband and best friend of 46 years, Steve Ballas; her beloved cat, Beeker; and her nephew, Scott Besaw of Chicago.

Although Linda’s passing leaves a tremendous void, her legacy lives on through the businesses she helped build, the friendships she cultivated, and the countless lives she touched through simple acts of kindness, generosity, and encouragement.

For the many people fortunate enough to know her, Linda Ballas will be remembered not only as a successful entrepreneur, but as someone who made her community a warmer and more welcoming place.
